On 16th October 2025 the Universisty of Nairobi Geography Students Society (UNGSS) together with Literature Students Association (LSA) jointly held a symposium funded by Soka University, Japan. Among the visitors we had the vice president of Soka university Prof. Junichi Ida, the executive Director of Soka Gakkai Mr. Yoshiyuki Nagaoka and the Deputy Director Ms Junja.

To mark Earth Day 2025, the University of Nairobi Geography Students Society (UNGSS) joined hands with environmental partners to participate in a large-scale indigenous reforestation exercise at Karura Forest. This initiative, led by Friends of Karura Forest in partnership with the Kenya Forest Service, aimed to restore the forest’s ecological balance by replacing exotic tree species with native ones.
On March 28th, 2025, the Department of Geography, Population, and Environmental Studies, along with the University of Nairobi Geography Students Society (UNGSS), organized an exciting academic trip to Hell’s Gate National Park. Located in the Great Rift Valley, the park offered an excellent combination of learning and adventure, allowing students to explore the park’s geology, wildlife, and culture.
The online workshop ‘Cross-Continent Dialogues 2025: Human Geography Progress’ is jointly organized by the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and the University of Nairobi (UoN), Kenya.
The Department of Geography, Population and Environmental Studies through its student society (UNGSS) in collaboration with ICON Radio hosted an event named, "The Campus Eco Tour" at UoN main campus, in the Hyslop Building, Room H312. The successful event was held on February 19th, 2025, from 9 AM to 1 PM.
The aim of the discussion was to explore innovative sustainability solutions and learn how environmental consciousness is shaping the future.
