OPEN DATA DAY

Open Data Day is an event that happens within cities around the world and mostly in countries that have affiliated institutions with OpenStreetMap. OpenStreetMap is a project started in the UK to create free editable maps that can be used by registered members who have grown to 2 million. The theme of this year’s Open Data Day in Nairobi was ‘Everything from Open Data to Crowd sourcing in one session’. The activities during this year’s celebrations were interactive sessions on how to access open data, how to create open data through various platforms, how to use Marathon.

Mitsubishi international scholarship awards 2019

The department was awarded the annual Mitsubishi International Scholarship by the General Manager regional office. The deputy vice chancellor Academic affairs representing the vice chancellor officiated the ceremony which took place at university Towers 19th floor on 30th January 2019. The scholarship fund which benefits students doing Geography (BA & Bed) and environmental conservation (BSc) has been running for ten since its inception. This tear 2019 we will celebrating out tenth anniversary.

UNGSS VISITS CONSERVATION AREAS

University of Nairobi Geography Students Society (UNGSS) visited Ol Pejeta conservancy during their outreach programs between 29th November to 2nd December 2018 This is one of the most well managed conservancy in Kenya. The group which was accompanied by their patron Dr. P Shah has been vibrant in environmental cleaning, tree planting among other environmental conservation activities.
