Urban Management & Development

Urbanization is a global process and there is no doubt that more than half of the world’s population will be living in urban areas in the future. Developing and implementing effective urban development and management approaches is therefore a major challenge for both present and future generations. Through research, teaching, consultancy and outreach activities, this thematic area aims at providing adequate knowledge, competence, skills and techniques in the analysis, formulation and implementation of sustainable urban development and management options, strategies and policies. As such, the thematic area shall be strengthening the capacities of cities and other actors in addressing the challenges of urbanization, urban growth, development and management.
