International Scientific Conference on the Tana River County: Call for Abstracts

The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) in collaboration with the Department of Geography & Environmental Studies, University of Nairobi (UoN), will host an international scientific conference on Tana River County from 11th to 13th February 2014 in Mombasa. 2013 BA III DoGES field-class

Field-class is an annual event for all third year geography and environmental studies students. The 2013 BA III field-class took place in Nanyuki County and its environs between 9th July and 13th July, 2013. The theme of the field-class was “Harnessing natural resources for ecological integrity, sustainable livelihoods and food security in Laikipia County and its Environs”.

Two more postgraduate students from the Department of Geography & Environmental Studies benefited from a one-semester exchange programme to the University of Jyvaskyla, Finland. DoGES Don facilitates at the 2013 Zanzibar Summer School

Dr. Samuel Owuor was one of the facilitators at the 2013 Summer School. The 2013 Summer School – a methodological training programme in Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) in East Africa – was held in Zanzibar, Tanzania, from 3rd April to 12th April 2013. It was hosted by the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) in the Stone Town of Zanzibar City.

Geography students attend the 2013 World Environment Day celebrations

Maseno University, Kenya

University of Nairobi Geography Students Society (UNGSS) attended the 2013 World Environment day celebrations held at Maseno University on 5th of June. The theme of this year’s celebration was “THINK, EAT, SAVE & REDUCE YOUR FOOTPRINT”. The aim was to enlighten the society on the importance of conserving and saving our resources,especially food resources.

UNGSS attend the 2012 World Environmental Day

The University of Nairobi Geography Students Society (UNGSS) participated in the world environmental day, 2012 in Lafarge ecosystem, Bamburi, Mombasa, Kenya. Led by their chairman, Simon Andika, the students particiated in several environmental activities, including lectures and clean-ups.
