Tana River County is set to benefit from outcomes of various research findings which are to inform its policy planning processes in eco-tourism management, conflict resolution, education, agriculture, fisheries, livestock management, strategic environmental assessment, others. The research findings were presented and discussed at a national scientific conference whose theme was ‘The impacts of human activities and climate change in Tana River County, Kenya”.

The Department of Geography & Environmental Studies hosted staff and students from UNEP-TONGJI University, Shanghai, China for a one-day seminar on 8th August 2013. The theme of the seminar was “Kenya’s resource base and development challenges”. The visit and seminar was organized by Ms. Frida Nyiva Mutui, Dr. Francis Mwaura and Prof. Elias Ayiemba. Frida is former MA student at the department and a PhD candidate at UNEP-TONGJI University.

The Department of Geography & Environmental Studies and the African Studies Centre in Leiden, Netherlands held a one-day project kick-off workshop on 3rd July 2013 at the University of Nairobi (UoN). The two institutions are involved in a collaborative project on “Food Planning and Innovation for Sustainable Metropolitan Regions (FOODMETRES): The Nairobi Case Study”.
