The “Nourishing Spaces Project” team held their first annual meeting in Cape Town, South Africa, on 25th and 26th of June 2018. The meeting brought together the Principal Investigator Dr. Jane Battersby (African Centre for Cities, University of Cape Town) and Co-Investigators Dr. Samuel Owuor (Department of Geography and Environmental Studies, University of Nairobi), Prof. Stephen Agong (Kisumu Local Interaction Platform), Dr. Ndeyapo Nickador (Department of Statistics and Population Studies, University of Namibia – represented by Tobias Shinyemba), Carina Truyts (Sol Plaatjie University, Kimberley), Dr. Jo Hunter Adams, Dr. Issahaka Fuseini and Dr. Gareth Hysom. The project, on urban food systems governance for non-communicable diseases prevention in Africa, is being implemented in six cities in Africa: Cape Town, Kimberley (South Africa), Nairobi, Kisumu (Kenya), Windhoek, Oshakati (Namibia). The meeting reflected on the Year 1 project activities, as well planning for Year 2. The Nairobi case study team is being coordinated by Dr. Samuel Owuor, together with Dr. Stella Mukhovi, Dr. Teresa Mbatia, Ms Grace Githiri and selected students from the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies.
