The UN Major Group for Children and Youth (UN MGCY) and UN-Habitat in collaboration with the University of Nairobi, Kenya Red Cross, One Stop Youth Centre and the Ministry of Devolution and Planning co-hosted the first ever National Urban Youth Forum (8-9 February 2016). The forum, which was held at University of Nairobi, was coordinated by the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies. The National Urban Youth Forum is a major formal engagement of the youth in Kenya to contribute to the Post-2015 Development Agenda HABITAT III Conference on “Housing and Sustainable Urban Development” to be held in Quito, Ecuador in October, 2016. The forum brought together youth from the 47 counties of Kenya to share knowledge and experiences, as well as help shape the Post-2015 Development Agenda. The forum was officially opened by the Vice-Chancellor, University of Nairobi, Prof. Peter M.F. Mbithi. The function was also attended by Prof. Enos Njeru (Principal, College of Humanities and Social Sciences); Mr. Doug Ragan (UN-Habitat Youth Unit); Mr. Nick Ngatia (UN MGCY); and Dr. Sam Owuor (Chairman, Department of Geography and Environmental Studies). The final day of the forum was graced by Prof. Paul Chepkwony, Kericho County Governor and also Governor in-charge of youth affairs in the Council of Governors. Kudos to Esther Muiruri (UN MGCY/DoGES-UoN) for her initiative and organizational skills.
